EXTRA CURRICULAR

TDMS CHARACTER ACADEMY

The Character Academy at TDMS plays an integral role in our meaning of supporting successful futures for our students. Whilst academic attainment is a key element of school life, it is complemented by a broad and enriching wider curriculum to provide a rounded education. We pride ourselves on developing young people with characters who are both interesting and interesting.

We provide a diverse range of opportunities and experiences, which equips and prepares students with the social and cultural capital needed to excel. For example, our diverse Extra-Curricular programme provides new physical challenges and skill building, alongside opportunities to serve in the community and charitable fundraising, enhancing the awareness of others. We want students to challenge themselves, to discover what they care about and enjoy, and in doing so to make new friendships and grow as young adults.

Our Character Academy consists of the following:

  • Extra-curricular clubs and societies that take place before, at lunch and after school.
  • Student Council that will foster a spirit of identity, teamwork, healthy competition and charity.
  • Enrichment that afford our students opportunities to explore, discover and grow beyond the classroom or school gates.

We are delighted to be offering a fantastic range of extra-curricular activities in the Autumn term across all year groups. Our drive for students to increase their attainment in lessons is going to be matched with what happens outside of the classroom. We are very aware that students have missed out on taking part in activities and socialising with their peers over the past 12 months and so moving forward extra-curricular will form one of the key ways in which we support our students post pandemic. Our extra-curricular programme is diverse and has a combination of additional curriculum-based subjects as well as a range of sports, arts and other activities.

Our aim is to immerse students in high culture on a daily basis and to ensure that we aren’t only raising aspirations, but also equipping students with the social and cultural capital to enable them to compete. It is about instilling knowledge, sparking curiosity, building confidence and broadening horizons.

Our extra-curricular offer will be updated every term throughout the year.

To sign your child up for extra-curricular clubs, please use the Arbor App.

At TDMS, we are extremely proud of our free extra-curricular programme which is offered to all students at no extra cost. To see the clubs that are on offer, please follow this link:

CHARACTER ACADEMY – VISITS AND EVENTS

We are passionate about providing every student with an exciting and diverse range of enrichment visits and opportunities to broaden our students’ experiences. Throughout the academic year, students experience enriching opportunities that are directly linked with what students are studying in their lessons. We aim to bring the curriculum to life for our students and show them that what they are learning inside the classroom, is relevant in the real world. We ensure that all students in Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 take part in character academy events or visits during the school year. For example: Pantomime (Year 6), Fly2Help (Year 7), HSBC (Year 8), Humanutopia (Year 9), Inner Spark (Year 10), Stephen Seki (Year 11), Warwick Castle (Sixth Form).
